2020 Lexington Liberty Summer Softball Information
Registration for a potential 2020 Lexington Liberty travel summer softball season opens on 6/15 and closes on 6/19 (but spaces are limited and spots could potentially fill up sooner). Registration will first be opened to players who participated in the program last summer, and then opened up to all players who are age-eligible as spaces allow. The summer season will potentially begin in early July (depending on the details of Phase 3 of the Massachusetts Reopening plan) and run through August. Based on last summer (but still subject to change), games were played on weekdays (Mon-Thurs) with travel to towns such as Chelmsford, Winchester, Wellesley, Burlington, etc. and practices held weekly generally on Sundays.
Team practices would possibly begin in late June or early July based on State and local guidelines and field reopening. As of mid-June, Phase 2 does not allow for team practices or games (only small group drills that are non-contact e.g, 6 feet apart). Given the Lexington Liberty program is a tryout-based, competitive League (and tryouts cannot be held in mid-June), please keep in mind during registration that spaces are limited and final team rosters will be formed using coach and league evaluations as appropriate. Note that players must live in Lexington or attend school in Lexington to be eligible.
Please note that while we are excited to get back on the fields to play softball, we must do so while adhering to all safety and health guidelines from the State and Town. The guidelines to be followed by all LLL summer participants will be finalized before play begins. Keep in mind these guidelines will address (but are not limited to) potential required temperature/symptom checks, no shared equipment, use of face coverings and social distancing, frequent handwashing, logging in of parents/spectators at events, etc. Families will receive these guidelines in draft form prior to registration and all families will review the latest updated guidelines as the season begins and waiver forms are signed. We appreciate your cooperation as we keep the safety and health of our players and families as our top priority and as national, state and local guidelines are changing constantly based on the progress of reopening.
All families will be required to sign a waiver (after reading the most up to-date set of Lexington Little League summer safety guidelines) before the season begins. By signing the waiver, you freely and knowingly accept the risk of participating in the summer 2020 season. Without the signed waiver, your child will not be allowed to participate in any activities. This waiver will be available on our website and will be emailed to registered players.
All players are required to bring their own personal softball equipment to all events and includes: glove, bat, fielding mask, batting helmet and catcher’s equipment (as well as water bottle and face covering/mask). If you do not already own this equipment, please plan accordingly and have available prior to the first practice. If you are unable to purchase, LLL will have limited equipment to lend a player for the season (but it is not be shared by other players). In the case of catchers’ gear, if a player doesn’t already have her own set, the League will lend a set to all players catching during the summer (to be returned to LLL at the end of the season).
Uniforms will be reused from last summer by returning players (and limited uniforms will be available for new players at additional cost in limited sizes/qty).
Summer program fees will be $110 for Lexington Liberty for all 3 divisions (10U, 12U, 14U). This includes a $25 registration fee which covers LLL overhead costs (e.g., insurance, equipment storage costs, other) and would not be refundable in the event of season cancellation. Note that registration payments will be delayed until team rosters are finalized and pending additional guidelines from State/Gov. Baker about Phase 3.
Liberty Divisions By Grade Level
Divisions will be broken out as follows (using grade level for the 2019-2020 school year):
10U: current grades 3rd and 4th
12U: current grades 5th and 6th
14U: current grades 7th and 8th
We are hopeful that (pending State and local guidelines and the State's reopening status overall), we may be able to provide an opportunity for girls' competitive, travel ball this summer. Thank you for your understanding as we patiently and carefully plan for a possible start of the 2020 Lexington Liberty softball program.
