To All Lexington Little League (LLL) Families,
Like all of you, the LLL Board is closely monitoring the rapidly developing situation with COVID-19 (Coronavirus). And like you, we are doing our best by adapting to the challenges and safety concerns in real-time, while being mindful of the 2020 LLL spring season.
Following the latest recommendations from state and local health officials, all LLL baseball and softball pre-season team practices and clinics have been cancelled through April 6th (consistent with Lexington school and public facility closures). The Recreation Department has also closed all outdoor athletic fields (effective March 13) and playgrounds through at least April 27th, and the Town has prohibited organized group recreation on open public spaces. While these are difficult decisions, we ask that everyone please respect and follow them for the safety of our community.
Our season is scheduled to start the week of May 2, but will likely be impacted by coronavirus. In addition to immediate restrictions on preseason events by local and state health and government authorities, Little League International has also encouraged local leagues to delay the start of spring seasons (and LLL is planning for contingencies accordingly). On a related note, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) has recently postponed the start of high school sports leagues until April 27th. To this end, information about subsequent LLL events, such as Opening Day Parade (May 2nd) and the start of the spring season, will be announced in the coming weeks. As always thank you for your understanding as we continue to closely monitor this dynamic and uncertain public health crisis, and stay safe and healthy.
